Spectrum Cycles was founded by Tom Kellogg and produced custom steel and titanium bikes in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley from 1982 to 2019. This early Spectrum frame is serial number 83·242·30·35.
Kellogg is one of the most significant American custom bicycle framebuilders of the last half-century. He was famously fired by custom framebuilder Bill Boston of Swedesboro, NJ just two and a half months into an apprenticeship. Tom built his first five fames in a New Hampshire shed, before moving to Allentown, PA where he set up shop as Tom Kellogg Frames. After setting up the legendary "Signature" department at Ross Bicycles, Tom began building under the Spectrum name in 1982, and in 1985 brought on master builder and long-time friend Jeff Duser.
Spectrum frames were built in a 185-year-old stone barn in the heart of the Lehigh Valley of eastern Pennsylvania. Rather than using complete tube-sets, Tom chooses each tube individually to tune the frame qualities for each rider. Lugs are Spectrum's own handmade designs, obsessively worked and finished. Spectrum officially closed in early 2021.
