Sam Cotten ran a bike shop named "Bicycle East" in NYC. This later became "Bicycle Renaissance". Sam contracted with Bill Hurlow to build and import bikes to the US. Only a handful were made, perhaps 80, maybe 100? This is a Hurlow built bike imported with the S.W. Cotton name. Cotten was an actor and after selling his bike shop to a business parter, moved to California in the mid-1970s to pursue an acting career. Among other things, he became a go-to expert legal witness in court cases involving bicycle accidents. He also built frames under his own name in California. Sam passed away in 2024.
