SBDU is an acronym for Raleigh's Specialist Bicycle Development Unit, a workshop established in 1974 In Ilkeston, Derbyshire, led by Gerald O'Donovan. Standard Raleigh bikes were produced at the Nottingham factory. Here were built the pinacle of Raleigh race bikes for professionals and special orders. Raleigh SB8283 was built with Reynolds 753, specially heat treated 531, featuring the iconic overlayed seatstay caps.
