Jens Veggerby's Mercxk 7-Eleven team bike
This is Jens Veggerby's 1989 7-Eleven team bike. Jens was a pro for 15 years with his most notable results being on the velodrome, where he won 13 of the 89 six-day races in which he competed. He also won the 1993 UCI Motor-Paced World Championship, earning multiple Eurpoean titles in the same discipline. A member of the iconic 7-Eleven team from 1987 to 1990, Jens took a stage at the 1989 Tour de Romandie. He also rode the 1989 Giro d'Italia and 1988 Tour de France.
For many, Eddy Merckx 7-Eleven (and later Motorola) team frames are the apotheosis of custom steel racing bikes. In 1989, Merckx became the 7-Eleven bike sponsor and Eddy was known to personally measure each rider for their bike. He believed in a long and low fit and Jens’ bike is no exception. Not only did steel bikes offer custom geometries, pro bikes also featured custom tubing, and often a mix of tubing, to tune the ride to the rider.
Jens' bike is built with period-correct and good condition Dura-Ace 7401 components. Cinelli Volare SLX saddle. The top tube on this bike has been repainted to address spidering rust from its use on an indoor trainer. The rest of the paint, decals, and chrome is original and shows marks from use as a pro bike. The bike measures 54cm c-t-c seat tube, 57cm top tube.
